RIDICULOUS ELITISM: Cleaners at Cambridge are at a risk as they clean vomit of drunken students almost everyday.
New Delhi: Students at one of world’s most prestigious university Cambridge are drinking so much that they are putting the health of university staff at risk, reports The Daily Mail.
Gatekeepers at the college are being vaccinated against hepatitis B as they spend so much time clearing up the vomit of the drunken brats. Binge-drinking first years at Gonville and Caius have been blamed.
"These issues have occurred before, but never as frequently as this. There have been cases of sinks becoming blocked and walls and floors being covered,” Tor Garnett, president of the college union was quoted by The Daily Mail.
The gatekeepers and contract cleaners at the college had to undergo vaccination to protect against the disease, which can be passed on through bodily fluids.
"It (vomit) has to be cleared up by contract cleaners who have been trained and have had a hepatitis B injection. The college believes the majority of it is due to first years drinking more than their limit," said the college union president.
Domestic bursar Ian Herd said: "It was a small number of students, mainly freshers, who got carried away on being away from home for the first time."
Hepatitis B can cause jaundice, cirrhosis and liver failure or cancer.
