Chennai: In an attempt to make life easier for the people of Chennai, the city's police have introduced the mobile police station - a police station that is always on the move.

The mobile police station is a new initiative by the Chennai Police to reach out to the common man.

"This exercise will go a long way in improving the relations between the police and the public. It's a lot easier for the common man to reach us now," says Commissioner of Police Chennai, R Sekar.

"The mobile police station will also allay the fear of the police station atmosphere. Its like a PR exercise to reach the common man," adds Sekar.

The station is headed by a sub-inspector, with nine other officials including three women. The station comprises of a computer, fax machine, telephone and a soon to-be-added GPS.

The citizens of Chennai support the idea of a mobile police station.

"This is very good for the people who are afraid of a police station. Anyone can lodge a complaint without fear. It's a very good step taken by the police department," says Gopinath, a resident of Chennai.

Now one doesn't need to be scared of a police station, all one has to do is step into a mobile police station and lodge a complaint. Another option is to call 100 and the police will be at one's doorstep.
