Chennai: Schools in Chennai are making good use of technology. They're emailing the report cards of the students to their parents.
While this spells good news for the parents, students are surely not a happy lot.
It is an age, when televisions and laptops are fast replacing the traditional blackboards in Chennai schools. Now, taking that a step further, schools have made report cards and diaries available to students and parents, online.
“We give the students a printed card and also send it as a mail to the parents' ids. They can view it, save it and even download it for future use. It’s easy for them to just open the file and take it whenever they want it,” says Principal, Bala Vidya Mandir, Nathan SS.
While some schools have websites set up to interact with parents, others just follow a mailing system. And, by the end of this year, more schools are expected to join in.
It used to be the circulars and notices, but now even report cards are being sent to parents online. However, while the teachers and the parents are happy with this new system, the students don't seem too enthusiastic about it.
“There will be hesitation in accepting anything new. But, this system will only benefit the child. With the parents being able to look into the report cards anytime, the students' academics is sure to improve,” says parent, Anita Ganeshan.
Meanwhile, with parents on their side, schools across the city feel it's a positive step forward, which in the end would benefit the child.
