Chetan Bhagat's stories are a hit with Bollywood
His two books are being made into films titled Idiot and Hello.
Mumbai: He's a banker who moonlights as a writer and Bollywood's now tuning in to his work.
Chetan Bhagat's One Night at the Call Centre will hit the screen in the Salman Khan-starrer Hello. Directed by Atul Agnihotri, the film has been scripted by Bhagat and is in the final stages of production.
For Bhagat, making the leap from boardroom to Bollywood was surprisingly easy.
"Atul has made sure it's a good adaptation but it’s got a Bollywood touch as well. Salman sings and takes his shirt off. But it's done in a very nice way,” Bhagat reveals.
But that’s not the only thing that’s keeping him on his toes. Bhagat's ready with his next book, The Three Mistakes of My Life, a story about three boys on the rocky road to entrepreneurship.
But the writer, who's just returned to India, is still viewed as a bit of an outsider by critics, if not by readers.
"Some people say you don't write very well, so they're the three mistakes of my life. I don't take it too seriously,” he says.
Bhagat also had a candid confession to make: “All my books have a number because the geek in me is still alive!"
With a potential blockbuster coming up, Bhagat certainly laughing all the way to the bank!
