New Delhi: There is still no clarity, at least officially, on whether former Cabinet minister and senior Congress leader Jagdish Tytler was among the perpertrators of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
It was the year when the Capital burned and more than 3,000 Sikhs were caught in the crossfire.
Now, CBI says that one of the main accused, Jagdish Tytler should be allowed to go scot free, simply because it has no evidence against him.
But just hours after making that candid admission in a Delhi court, the CBI has egg on its face.
One of the main witnesses in the case, Jasbir Singh, whom the CBI "just could not trace", made an appearance on CNN-IBN.
He said that the CBI just never came to him.
For the CBI and Tytler, it's an embarrasement hard to digest and so the CBI came to CNN-IBN, asking for help.
This is what the CBI wrote to CNN-IBN: ''It appears from the reporting of your TV channel that Jasbir Singh is in contact with your TV channel. It is requested that if any telephone number or address of Jasbir Singh is available with you, then it may kindly be provided for the purpose of investigation. Accordingly, the Interpol shall be contacted for the purpose of recording the statement of Jasbir Singh''.
However, an angry Jagdish Tytler countered the accusations and said: "How can they dig up matter as old as 21 years and that too on the last day of the judgment. This channel (CNN-IBN) is biased, you are biased."
But, for those who have been fighting for justice for the riot victims, the CNN-IBN expose is yet another straw that they have to hold on to.
