CNN-IBN REVEALS: Police not only delayed identification but concealed details of the witness.
Panaji: While Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat defends his police force, new evidence has emerged of the alleged cover-up by the police in the rape and murder case of British teenager Scarlette Keeling.
In a special investigation conducted by CNN-IBN, the doctor who carried out the first post- mortem on Scarlette has revealed the details.
The Goa police used the autopsy report to conclude that Scarlett had accidentally drowned, but the doctor says the report had clearly mentioned that the British teenager could have been murdered.
“The person who got the body is Mr Lakshya Amondkar. I spoke to him. After that, he went and informed his superior, who is Nerlon. Between the two of them, something transpired. Whereas I had informed Mr Lakshya amondkar that the manner in which the person had died, in the water, with injuries and drugs, chances are of it being homicide,” said the doctor.
CNN-IBN has gained access to signed statements by a witness, Max Bulgakov, who says he identified Scarlette on the beach.
Yet the doctor says he was told by by Nerlon Albuquerque, the sub-inspector at Anjuna, that the body was not identified. The doctor adds that the police also concealed details of the witnesses.
“Immediately thereafter, who has come to identify her? With whom was she last seen? Take their details and produce all of them to me. Why? Because I have to exclude sexual intercourse or confirm sexual intercourse. One or two or seven people. Bring them before me. That was the material evidence. That is what he (Albuquerque) had to enter in the station diary…"
CNN-IBN: So did you get that material evidence from them?
Doctor: He did not co-operate.
The doctor's unwilling statement confirms what Scarlett's mother has been saying all along. But now the question being raised is why did Nerlon Alberquerque do this? That's something that the Police and Government will have to find an answer to.
