Panaji: India's renowned international cartoonist Mario Miranda's biggest collection book was released in Goa in the presence of his friends and family.
The 83-year-old cartoonist’s book, which is a compilation of his best work, is titled Mario Da Miranda. The book has been published by Architect Anonymous, which is headed by renowned architect Gerald Da Cunha.
Miranda's cartoons became a style statement and started a new trend in the world of cartoonists.
“It took me three years to compile this book. Mario's cartoon collection is a treasure. The book is on sale. We believe more cartoonists will be born out of this book. So far the response has been great,” Gerald Da Cunha said.
Mario had once said, “People today have become very serious. They are forgetting humour in life.” True to his word, he was found him in his usual jolly mood at the book launch.
“I am thankful to Gerald for this book. I have nothing in this book except my cartoons. Gerald has gone through hell while doing this book and I believe he is still going through hell,” Miranda said.
Talking about Goa, the Padma Bhushan recipient cartoonist sounded optimistic. Over the years and through his work, Mario has captured Goa's unique heritage and culture with brilliant insight. Now, he says Goa is fast changing.
“Goa is changing for better and for worse but we will have to stick to the good part. But that depends upon the people we nurture. It’s great to see youngsters coming up in various fields. We are the past, they are the future,” he said.
