New Delhi: Seven police personnel in Maharshtra will pay the price for socialising with actor Sanjay Dutt when he was released from Pune’s Yerawada Jail on Thursday.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil has ordered an inquiry against seven policemen who were caught on camera shaking hands and hugging the actor when he was released on bail on Thursday.
“Maharashtra government will initiate action against the police personnel, who hugged actor Sanjay Dutt, while coming out of Yerwada Jail,” said Patil
The internal inquiry against them will be headed by the Inspector General of Prisons.
Police personnel are forbidden to be seen socialising with convicts according to the police code of conduct. If found guilty, the policemen may even be suspended from the force.
Dutt – sentenced to six years’ imprisonment in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case – was granted an interim bail by Supreme Court last week.
The TADA court is expected to give a copy of its judgment to Dutt, after which the actor will have to surrender before police.
