We think of tigers or leopards in trouble but what about the habitat in which they live and the people who depend on that habitat for their livelihood?

That’s our special series starting May 3 on Citizens for Earth. Over the next six weeks, we at CNN-IBN will bring you face to face with India's most pressing environment problems.

We span the countryside to look at landscapes on the brink, from forests to rivers to the cold desert to the coastline and investigate a land, its people and its culture are in trouble because of development, deforestation and global warming.

Details of the shows:

Episode 1:

LAND OF THE DAMNED! We look at how heavy deforestation because of India's growing energy needs will push indigenous groups and wildlife on the edge in the north east.

Episode 2:

RIVER YATRA: looks at the state of India's rivers. Anu Jogesh follows the course of the river Krishna from source to sea and finds a cocktail of problems affecting India's rivers.

Episode 3:

LIFE ON THE EDGE: We travel along 5000 km of India's coastline. We dive underwater in the Lakshadweep and find out how climate change and rising sea levels will affect people who live on the coast. We get you the first scientific evidence of the impact of climate change on people’s lives.

Episode 4:

MUMBAI FLOODED: Why is Mumbai on the edge? Mandakini Gupta finds out how rapid urbanisation and global warming will affect India’s business capital and why conserving Mumbai's mangroves is important.

Episode 5:

COLD DESERT ON THE BRINK: Ladakh is the rooftop of the world. How is global warming affecting biodiversity and people’s lives in India’s cold desert?

Episode 6:

TROUBLED FORESTS: The Western Ghats, India's largest tract of contiguous forest, are today under threat because of rampant mining. Bahar Dutt walks the forest to find out why there is heavy deforestation from mining in the Western Ghats.
