New Delhi: The BJP on Monday said the affidavit filed by the government in Supreme Court on Sethusamudram project is 'objectionable and unacceptable' as issues of faith cannot be decided by a court.

"The questions of faith do not have a proof to substantiate, may it be the faith in Mother Mary or anything else," party spokesperson Vijay Kumar Malhotra said.

"The government's stand on Ram Setu is objectionable and unacceptable. It cannot ask for issues of faith to be decided by the court. It is for the elected government to decide," he said.

"The government should answer why the sixth alignment (which does not pass through the Ram Setu) is not being chosen for the Sethusamudram project," Malhotra asked.

The saffron party suggested that the government should follow the Tamil Nadu government's stand on the bull-fighting in Sethusamudram issue and protect Ram Setu.

The Tamil Nadu pleaded for vacation of stay on the practice of bull fighting saying it is the tradition and faith of the locals and the apex court should allow it to take place.

On attack on migrants in Mumbai and Assam, Malhotra said it is against the 'spirit of the Constitution' to note the developments in Mumbai and Assam.

"The party believes any Indian can live and work in any part of the country irrespective of his or her origin. The only thing left to be done is to scrap Article 370 (giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir)." The party demands action against illegal Bangladeshi residents living in different parts of the country, he said.
