Mirpur: Chittagong Kings thrashed Sylhet Royals by 119 runs in an one sided encounter in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League on Friday. Batting first, Kings made a huge 193 for 4 and then bowled out Royals for 74.
After winning the toss, Royals chose to field first but things did not go according to their plans as both the openers Brendon Taylor and Naeem Islam made staggering 58. They shared a 118 runs opening partnership and that set the platform for Kings. Later, Ryan Ten Doeschate played a scintillating knock of 37 off 18 balls that took Kings to 193. All the bowlers of Royals went for plenty except Mohammad Nabi. Nabi picked up three wickets and gave away only 27 in his four overs.
In reply, Royals were never in contention as they kept on losing wickets from the very begining. In the very first over Paul Stirling went back in the hut and that opened the floodgates for Kings. Australian paceman Shaun Tait bowled fast and picked up three wickets in his three overs and gave Royals the early jolt.
Rubel Hossain and Enamul Haque jnr supported him well as both of them picked up three wickets each. Only Mohammad Nabi showed some resistance as he made 35 off 33 balls. Brendon Taylor was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Earlier in the day, Khulna Royal Bengals beat Duronto Rajshahi by seven wickets to win their third match of the Bangladesh Premier League this season. Tamim Iqbal, skipper of Duronto Rajshahi, won the toss and opted to bat but lost three quick wickets as they slumped to 31 for 3. Jahurul Islam and Chamara Kapugedara tried to steady the innings but they couldn't stay at the crease for too long. Mukhtar Ali played a fine cameo of 41 off 30 balls to steer his team to a respectable total of 138 for 9 in 20 overs.
Despite losing their opener Riki Wessels in the third over, Khulna Royal Bengals went about chasing the traget with assurance. Shahriar Nafees, who has been in tremendous form this season, played another fine innings as he cracked 71 runs studded with 11 boundaries. He received good support from Travis Birt and Jehan Mubarak as Khulna Royal Bengals attained the target in 19.2 overs.
