Karachi: Pakistan's experienced pacer Umar Gul has said that seniors like him will have to shoulder the bulk of responsibility in the upcoming much-awaited series against India. Gul said he was focusing on the Indian and South African tours.
"I know how important both series are for us and me as the most experienced pacer in the side. I am working hard and I want to create an impact against India," Gul said. The pacer from Peshawar has taken identical number of 158 wickets in 45 Tests and 111 ODIs for Pakistan but it is in T20 cricket where he has made a stronger impact, taking 62 wickets in 49 matches.
Gul, 28, said he was aware that he had not been as consistent in recent times as he should be. "I know there will be lot of pressure playing in India and I am prepared for that because the seniors have to take a lead role when playing in India," he said. Gul said there was no particular Indian batsmen he would target in the series.
"It is a One-day series, so first and foremost, I have to be careful about being economical and also taking wickets at the same time. India has a strong batting line-up and every wicket is important for me." Gul has had to face plenty of embarrassment in the ongoing national T20 championship when he was fined his entire match fees for ball tampering. "I didn't tamper with the ball, I was just trying to cut a piece of thread on the seam with my teeth," Gul said.
