Christchurch:New Zealand and Central Districts batsman Jamie How rewrote the history books on Wednesday by cracking a double-century in a List A match. How, who has played 65 internationals across all formats, smashed 222 against Northern Districts at Christchurch to equal the second-highest score in a List A, or domestic, one-day matches.
In October 1974, South Africa's Graeme Pollock had made 222 not out for Eastern Province against Border. The record for highest score in List A cricket belongs to former England cricketer Ali Brown, who blasted 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002.
How's blistering knock came off 138 balls and was studded with 27 boundaries and eight sixes, propelling CD to 417 for 6 in 50 overs. However, he was lucky on two occasions - he was bowled off a no-ball by Anurag Verma when on 76 and dropped by Jono Hickey on 150. How had a realistic chance to have a go at Brown's record of 268 when he reached 222 at the end of 43 overs but fell to Brent Arnell in the 44th.
The opposition fought hard but CD won by 19 runs.
