Jaipur: Rajasthan captain Hrishikesh Kanitkar has said the ten-day gap before the team's next game against Punjab will help him regaining his fitness.
Kanitkar, 38, missed Rajasthan's ongoing match against Madhya Pradesh after sustaining a calf injury during a practice session a few days before the game. "The recovery has been going well and I hope to play the next game against Punjab," Kanitkar said while talking to Cricketnext.com. "I am hoping the ten-day gap between this and the next game will help me getting back into shape."
The former Maharashtra batsman, who also played for Madhya Pradesh between 2008 and 2009, praised his team's performance against MP, saying the bowlers were exceptional in dismissing the visitors for 256. "I think we bowled extremely well yesterday. Pankaj [Singh] and Rituraj [Singh] were on target from ball one," Kanitkar added.
Kanitkar said that it was disappointing to have missed out for this game as the outcome here would be crucial as how things would pan for the team going forward this season. "I wanted to play this game as a win here will help us getting up in the table," he said.
Having conceded the first innings lead in their matches against Bengal and Mumbai, Rajasthan have just two points and are lying at No. 7 in the Group A points table.
"After getting the first innings lead, our main aim here will be to build a sizeable lead and push for an outright win from thereon, he said.
Kanitkar was also disappointed from the fact that despite being the domestic champions for the last two seasons there hasn't been any player made his way to the national side. "I think the performance has been there for everyone to see. Everyone contributed to the team's success. It's disappointing not to see Robin (Bist), Pankaj and some other top performers not being picked for the national side."
Robin has been the form batsman for Rajasthan for the last two seasons, scoring 1331 runs in the 2011-12 seasons. He has also scored 117 and 67 in the Irani Trophy game against Rest of India at the beginning of this season. Pankaj too has been extremely good in the last two years, picking up 53 and 35 wickets in the past two seasons. He has been the leading wicket-taker for his side, claiming ten wickets so far in this season.
