Kieron Pollard: the storm that blew Hyderabad

Mumbai: "It's just a matter of chasing the right bowler." Easier said than done when you are chasing 179 to win in mere 20 overs. But Kieron Pollard hushed Sunrisers Hyderabad with an innings that not many are capable of in the current bang bang era.
Pollard took strike when Mumbai needed 80 off 40 balls. He scored just 9 in the first 10 balls, but if Hyderabad thought they will manage to keep him quiet and win, Pollard thrashed that as a foolish misconception in the next 10 balls, scoring 41 to leave Hyderabad winded.
Thisara Perera was almost trampled by the West Indian giant with three gigantic sixes. "It's just a matter of chasing the right bowler; Perera was the unlucky one," Pollard said sympathetically after the match. The power hitter made it five sixes in five balls when he deposited the first two balls of the next over by Amit Mishra for two more biggies.
Perera cotinued to bear the brunt, conceding two more sixes in his last over to concede the match. The Sri Lankan was thrashed for 55 runs in 3.3 overs without a wicket. Pollard struck 34 runs off 7 balls he faced from Perera - a strike rate of 485.71. The winning sixer sent Pollard and the Mumbai dugout into celebration mode. The win made them No. 1 on the points table and kept their unbeaten record at home this season intact.
"It was an important game for us, hats off to Pollard. You don't need to tell him anything, he plays his natural game," said Rohit Sharma who took over Mumbai captaincy since Ricky Ponting decided to bench himself for the team's benefit.
"We were in the driver's seat and Kieron turned it on is head. Kieron saw Steyn off and took on the other bowlers. He's not an easy person to bowl to" was the response of Rohit's counterpart Cameron White.
But the swagger and the jovialness is always reserved for the men from the Caribbean, and Pollard came up with exactly that. "I didn't have any breakfast today," he joked after his match-winning 27-ball 66*, which was punctuated with 2 fours and 8 sixes. Wonder what his figures would have read had he eaten the breakfast.
