Ranji Trophy, Group B, Round 9, Day 2: TN reach 181 for 3 against Haryana

Chennai: India batsman Abhinav Mukund hit a patient half-century as Tamil Nadu reached 181 for 3 against Haryana at the close of the second day in their Group B Ranji Trophy match on Sunday. At stumps, Arun Karthik (33) and Dinesk Karthik (17) were at the crease.
Earlier, opener Mukund took 169 balls to score 60 runs with six boundaries. Other opener Murali Vijay made 24 runs, hitting four boundaries.Baba Aparajith also chipped in with 42. His 99-ball innings included four boundaries. For Haryana, legspiner Yuzvendra Chahal claimed two wickets for 72.Brief Score: Tamil Nadu 181 for 3 in 78 overs (Abhinav Mukund 60; Yuzvendra Chahal 2 for 72).Odisha vs Uttar Pradesh:In Cuttack, Odisha are very much in the race for a place in the knock-out stages of the Ranji Trophy as they need another 92 runs for an outright win over Uttar Pradesh after the second days play in a Group B encounter on Sunday.Chasing 145 runs to win, Odisha were 53 for 4 at stumps with Govind Podder (24) and Deepak Behera (5) at the crease. Medium pacer Imtiaz Ahmed scalped three wickets for UP, while left-arm spinner Ali Murtaza accounted for the other three Odisha batsmen.Earlier, resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 70 for 5, Odisha were bowled out for 127 in reply to UP's 160. Basant Mohanty picked up four wickets for 31 runs while Deepak Behera, who registered figures of 6 for 37 in UP's first innings, scalped three more wickets to return with a match haul of 9 for 64. For UP, three of their batsmen - Umang Sharma (37), Murtaza (25) and skipper Mohammad Kaif (23) - managed double digit scores.Brief scores: Uttar Pradesh: 160 and 111 all out (Umang Sharma 37, Ali Murtaza 25; Basant Mohanty 4 for 31, Deepak Behera 3 for 27). Odisha: 127 and 53 for four in 20 overs (Govind Podder 24 not out; Imtiaz Ahmed 3 for 11).Karnataka vs Maharashtra: In Pune, Muralidharen Gautam smashed a brilliant double hundred as Karnataka declared their first innings on a massive 572 for 9. The wicketkeeper batsman remained not out on 264, his second double ton in three matches. Gautam was ably supported by captain Stuart Binny, who hit a 272-ball 168 with the help of 19 fours and two sixes. The duo put on 340 runs for the fifth wicket to take control of the match. Resuming at 306 for 4, the visitors added 266 runs for the loss of five wickets with Gautam and Binny scoring the bulk of the runs. For Maharashtra, pacer Samad Fallah was the most successful bowler of the day as he bagged two wickets, including that of Binny which broke the big partnership. In reply, Maharashtra were 58 for 1 in 16 overs with Harshad Khadiwale and Sangram Dilp Atitkar batting on 31 and six respectively.Brief scores: Karnataka 1st Innings: 572 for 9 decl (Muralidharen Gautam 264 not out, Stuart Binny 168; Samad Fallah 2 for 82). Delhi vs Vidarbha:In Nagpur, young left-hander Vaibhav Rawal scored a brilliant century to help Delhi pile up a massive 523 for 9 declared against Vidarbha. At stumps, Vidarbha were 20 for 1.The day belonged to young Rawal who scored his second first-class century of the season, having scored his maiden ton against Tamil Nadu on debut. He faced 226 deliveries and hit 15 fours. He had a very fruitful partnership with veteran Rajat Bhatia (68) as they added 152 runs for the sixth wicket.For Vidarbha, Sandeep Singh, Akshay Wakhare, Shrikant Wagh and Gaurav Upadhyaya took two wickets apiece.
