New Delhi: After grabbing three points against Kerala, courtesy their first-innings lead, Services skipper Soumik Chatterjee said that not losing a single wicket second innings would be a morale booster for the teams next game against Goa starting December 8.
Chatterjee scored 107 to help his team to get the first-innings lead and shared a 152-run stand for the fourth wicket with veteran Yashpal Singh. Services finished their first innings at 335 in reply to Kerala's 314. Chasing an impossible target of 173 in 15 overs after Kerala declared their second innings at 193 for 3 in 77, Services scored 85 without any loss on the final day.It was a tough task to chase 173 in just 15 overs. The moment Kerala declared their innings, I told openers Nakul Verma and Anshul Gupta to stick for long and not to lose wicket, Chatterjee told Cricketnext. I am happy that we put up a good total in the second innings. I loved the way Anshul and Nakul batted. They fought and put 85 runs on the board. Not losing a single wicket in the second innings will be a morale booster for us for the next encounter against Goa.Kerala, on the other hand, rode on the magnificent show of VA Jagadeesh, who scored an unbeaten 199 in the first innings. I dont have any regret for missing the double-ton. I wanted to set a good total on the scoreboard. Thankfully we did it. Now, we are looking for another game. There is a long way to go. It could have been much better if we could at least touch 400-run mark. Jagadeesh said after the match. We will have an advantage [in the next match] as we will be playing in our home ground. I will try to carry the same momentum against Jammu & Kashmir. Abhishek Hegde, who guided Kerala after they suffered early jolts in the second innings with a stubborn century, was also satisfied with his second first-century which came after he scored his first against Assam earlier this season. I am glad that I was able to rebuild the innings after our team stuttered in the morning. We lost two important wickets in the morning but were stabled later on, he said. Honestly, I wanted to play a long innings and wanted to stay till the end. This is my second ton this season. I will try to keep up the good show in the next matches for the team.
