New Delhi: Luke Pomersbach, the Australia batsman representing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, was taken into custody by the Delhi police on Friday and later released on interim bail in an alleged molestation case.
Pomersbach reportedly collapsed in court and was taken out of the premises immediately, but will have to return on Saturday when the next hearing of the case will take place. Sidhartha Mallya, the RCB director, had controversially jumped to Pomersbach's defence on Twitter by saying the woman who accused the cricketer of misbehaving with her and thrashing her fiancé was making a pass at him and "wasn't exactly behaving like a future wife" should. The victim in the molestation case claimed that she was threatened by IPL players to drop the case. She pleaded with the government of India to help her in the matter. Revealing the details of the incident, the woman, an American national, said, "Luke followed us to our room. He came inside. When I asked him to leave, he molested me. When my fiancé intervened and asked him to leave, he punched him repeatedly." The victim also alleged that she did not receive any help from the hotel. "The hotel management never called the police. I called the police myself. The hotel management did not give any medical assistance either. I want Luke to be punished.RCB owner Vijay Mallya said: "Luke will not play for RCB in the IPL till he is cleared of all the charges."
