Melbourne: Cricket Australia on Sunday announced that Australia A batsman Shaun Marsh will take no further part in the series against the England Lions after he ruptured a hamstring tendon during Saturday's match at Bellerive Oval, Hobart.
Australia A physiotherapist David Beakley said: "A scan has revealed that Shaun Marsh ruptured a hamstring tendon behind his right knee while batting last night".
"Shaun will see a specialist orthopaedic surgeon early this week to determine the appropriate course of treatment," Beakley said.
Marsh and captain Aaron Finch (80) set up Australia A's 260 for 3 with five balls to spare at Bellerive Oval, after the Lions totaled 259 for 6 on the back of opener Varun Chopra's 105 from 137 balls. Marsh collapsed clutching his right knee after completing a run to reach 99 and was treated by medical staff before batting on to reach 100 from 128 balls and then promptly retiring hurt. The second match of the five-game series is on Monday at Hobart.
