New Delhi: India's latest batting sensation, Shikhar Dhawan, looks set to miss much of IPL 6 after the BCCI announced on Tuesday that he faces a six-week injury lay-off. The sixth season of the IPL runs from April 3 to May 26 so it is foreseeable that the earliest Dhawan, who is contracted to SunRisers Hyderabad, could return would be the latter stages of the tournament.
Dhawan, who scored 187 on Test debut in Mohali last week, sustained a fracture in his left hand while fielding during Australia's second innings. On Tuesday, the BCCI announced a revised squad for the fourth and final Test in New Delhi and confirmed that Dhawan will be out of for six weeks.
Playing for the now terminated Deccan Chargers last season, Dhawan was one of the batting stars with 569 runs at 40.64, which was the highest for the Hyderabad-based franchise and third highest overall, behind Chris Gayle and Gautam Gambhir.
In 29 matches for Deccan across two IPL seasons, Dhawan scored 969 runs at 37.26 with seven half-centuries. Prior to that, he played 19 matches for Mumbai Indians and 14 for Delhi Daredevils.
