Mumbai: The placement season is four months away and five students from IIM Calcutta are already prospective crorepatis. They have offers from leading investment banks for the position of an associate.
An IIM graduate is typically hired as a senior analyst on a Rs 70 lakh to Rs 80 lakh package, but an associate carries a salary of more than Rs 1 crore per annum.
Last year, four students took home this offer after the placement season, but this year during the pre-placement season, five students bagged such an offer.
Now, even consulting firms are flocking to IIM Calcutta. Besides offers from the McKinsey and Boston Consulting groups, IIM Calcutta has 10 pre-placement offers from slot-zero consulting firms. Last year, however, it bagged only one offer.
This summer eight students from IIM Calcutta interned at Morgan Stanley and the company has, for the first time, made seven pre-placement offers.
The institute has also bagged UBS group's first pre-placement offer, made to an Indian B-school.
Overseas offers have also risen significantly. Last year the institute got 50 overseas pre-placement offers. This year, 37 overseas offers have come in and the pre-placement season still has two months left.
IIM Calcutta is now confident it will break last year's placement record.
