First responsible was the company itself... 1) with the company IT security policies strong and is being followed in a correct way this should'nt have happnd. Companies should follow international information security standards to protect such information leaks. 2) Our laws and the investigation methods also has to be improved to large extend. Laws protecting intelectual properties has to come in.

Having worked in this field I know that Security Compliance be it ISO, BS7799 or Sarbanes Oxley, is one of the best in India, exceeding most of the european countries. Some small incidents like this are in fact good for India as it will lead to even better compliance. Information and Data security are best controlled by companies as compared to Police or judicial system. So having an archaic Police of Judicial system wont have much effect. The faction which makes such a noise on outsourcing doesnt understand that things like this are in turn going to help India and increase outsourcing rather than impeding it.

Patnaik will live happily . He may open businesses soon Here legal system is not that powerful like other advanced countries. You can do all crimial stuff and enjoy your life behind bars. Advicates will arange bail for you or Jail Officers will help these criminals while behind bars. Indian BPO will be beaten out soon, govt does not take direct action soon. There should be a seperate policy & department on data protection, piracy, patent and copyrights

The decision of Acme is most unfortunate and a hasty one. They have to respect the law of the land.

ITS FAILURE OF COMPANY MANAGEMENT ================================= There could not be IDEAL situation. We need to tighten the law and more on data security s/w and steps inside company. Data theft like this happens more in US/UK and its very offen there. Nothing to get panic except there should be law in place. There are tens of ways to protect the data and such incidents in office provided the company management setup the infrastructure secure.

The current IT Laws in the country are too meek. Mr Maran needs to work on it to regain foreign investment and also deter any future events from happening.

Sad news! Let justice be done fairly. On one side, PM invites foreign investors to invest in our country. On other end, our corruption & gaps drives them away.

It would give a serious blow to BPO industries as this incident gives wrong signals in overseas countries. This is welcome news for developed countries who have been trying to pin down I.T. Growth in India. Indian Government should take this matter seriously as it will not only affect I.T & BPO industries but also it will affect the country’s economic growth. My question is this whether such types of incidents never happened in the developed world? Are they living in heaven? Do they not have police, jail, various laws to protect the public interests? IF THE ANSWER IS YES WHY SO MUCH EUPHORIA? I CONSIDER IT AS COWARDICE ATTIDTE AND THEY MUST HAVE VESTED INTERESTS. Shifting the entire office or industry of ACME to Australia is just an excuse. If they were doing well they would not have taken this decision.
ON THE CONTRARY, ACME COMPANY IS SENDING WRONG SIGNALS TO REST OF THE WORLD AND INDIAN GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE SERIOUS NOTE OF IT. The Indian Government must act tuff with such companies. India should not encourage these types of companies or entrepreneurs who are opportunists only.

Having been in UK for long, I can safely say that people in positions here don't cheat or lie. I think the secret is that people are paid well...there is national minimum wage here...so a teacher or a cleaner or a graduate employee earns pretty much the same salary of £25K to £30K. This will go up to £50K after 15 years experience when they would have climbed up to managerial posts. See http://prospects.ac.uk for more info. There is also so much guidance available for students to choose the career they love. So when you are doing your dream job, you will try do only justice to it. Ofcourse, there are the odd miscreants. But by and large, you can trust the British people. The media is very strong here. So any miscreants will quickly be exposed and punished. There is a national database for offences..so the person will have trouble getting reemployed. All these makes UK so different from India and also different from USA, where there is more inequalities. I can explain more if anybody is interested in exploring further.

Hi
I live in the UK too. I have not seen a more lazy country than this. While i agree with you on the fact that people are straight, people are generally very slow. The weather sucks 5 months a year and any service takes its own day. For example it took me 15 days to get a landline connection in a big city...imagine

Who are you kidding? I live in Europe, and we get daily BBC news about unscrupulous business practices in the UK. In fact, I just saw recently a film on a firm that sold reclining beds to the elderly, by lying, cheating and bullying these vulnerable old people into buying these beds at astronomical prices. Yes, it is true that the consumer courts are stronger, and awareness more among consumers, in the west than in countries like India, that those who cheat can't get away with it for too long. But to say that the British and British businesses are more honest is really exagerating, and certainly not being honest!

Money has become the driving force behind every move we make in our life. We work hard with the intention of earning more and more; Corporate run their business with the motive of profit; Govt formulates its policy to make sure GDP is growing at a healthy pace. So, knowingly or unknowingly money has become measure of success in all the levels. For this reason, Corporates poach best talents, employees sell their values when they jump like monkey from organization to organization, Govt devises populist measures without caring about the future only with an intention of showing rosy picture. So, without our own knowledge it has become ingrained in our blood that money is what makes us proud and happy and that too in quick succession. This is the downward spiral, we all have fallen prey to in one way or the other. If there is a guiding force to help us draw the fine line between meeting our needs and meeting our greed, we will have answers to most of these problems.
