Anirban Mukherjee The film should not be banned because it is only a celebration of the freedom of expression. The only case where a film or work of art can be censored is when its publication leads to actual (not apprehended) disruption of public life through direct and unambiguous espousal of a violent cause. And in case, if Da Vinci Code needs to be banned, then what was all that talk about freedom of expression with regard to the publication of the cartoons of Prophet Mohammad in Europe?
It is time India regained its openness and tolerance and lived up to the future that Tagore had envisioned for this great country. Let us truly and fully become the nation where the "Mind is Without Fear and the Head is Held High" and let sectarianism die a natural death, for once and forever.

Stallion This movie has got it's share of publicity... Thanks to the church. Promoters of the movie must not have spent much on the publicity... People are more interested in it now.. they will see the movie anyway whether it is released legally or not.

Varad In my view, this movie should not be banned. As mentioned by others, it is not banned in other strong christian contries itself and is not justified to be banned in India. Particularly in a country where the religion of "so-called" majorities, Hinduism, itself is subjected to caustic comments and vulgar picturization, every day, in both celluloid world and in reality. Also, people should try to see the line of demarcation between what they see in movies and what they want to believe in reality and not react so vehemently towards things shown in movies.

Arun Priyoranjan is the newly appointed super-censor-board chairperson.

lifewords While showing total respect to the hurt sentiments of the Christian community, I request them to ponder over the fact that the publishers of the eponymous have already sold 43 million copies in the US and Europe, which are predominantly Christian. The Governments in those countries have not banned the book, considering the premise that it is a work of fiction and that freedom of expression cannot be challenged. Such a stand is also maintained by Rome, so close to the the seat of Pope, the Vatican City, and also a Catholic nation at that. One is not aware of any protest there. So, are Indian Christians more intolerant than their co-religionists in other countries? Did the Christian organisations express their outrage to their co-religionists who thronged the bookstores to buy the book or to the Government of the country of origin of the book and the film? If some have, it will be worthwhile knowing their reactions to such protests.

Srikanth A movie...!!!!!! its afterall a movie... a movie can question the credibilities of a widely followed religion!!! what a joke... lets watch the movie and decide if its real. See...I think if a movie can harm a religion, then its not a religion at all..!!! If that religion has stuff..it'll survive even the hardest of the invasions for centuries...(like Hinduism), a movie is just an entertainment medium. Lets be allowed to watch it.

Bikash Deb When will the political leaders grow up? The question is not only ‘when the whole world including the Christian world can see the movie, why not we Indians?’ The question is ‘the shameful attempt of minority appeasement by the ruling party’. This kind of attitude of minority appeasement is only fuelling the discontent among the people. This vote bank politics has already ruined the country. This only forces the middle class educated people to the fold of right wing parties like BJP. To some extent the root cause of advent of BJP, Demolition of Babri Musjid, Bombay riots and the Gujarat riots can be traced back to the minority appeasement of Rajiv Gandhi Govt. on Shah Bano case. The disenchantment of the general educated middle class is already manifested in the anti-reservation protests, creating a caste divide.
Slowly the educated class are feeling themselves vulnerable. By their narrow foolish vote bank politics the parties are only creating more division among the people. But the biggest problem is how does one make these political leadership realise the fall out of their fallacies.

Prashant The I&B ministry should respect the decission of the censor board and allow the film to be screened. I'm against any sort of ban whatsoever whether it is books, fils or art. By doing so, they undermine the democratic system - the core of Independant India. The ban will only see the surge in pirated DVDs being sold and in such a case, everyone loses. Lets not let the protests act as a smoke screen of a small few who can't accept that not everybody believes that theirs is the unquestionable truth. If they don't want to see it let it be, but dont impose your views upon others who are more open minded than they are. Lts not forget that it was the church that condemned Galeleo Galeli for claiming that the world is round and that it revolves around the sun. The church is not always correct. They should understand this. Dont make DA VINCI CODE a victim of this.
