New Delhi: Tuesday was the day of the leading ladies at Cannes with Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Monica Bellucci hitting the red carpet to promote their respective new releases.
First, a heavily pregnant Jolie walked in with partner Brad Pitt sporting a kaftan style brown gown for the premiere of her film Changeling. The evening also saw the film's director Clint Eastwood, Sharon Stone, Michelle Yeoh and singer P Diddy walk the red carpet.
Set in the 1920s America, Changeling is the true story of Christine Collins, a single mother played by Jolie. When Collin's nine-year-old son Walter goes missing, it explodes into a poor public relations case for the police. Five months later, the police hands over a boy to Collin, insisting that he was the missing child. But Collin insists that the boy is an imposter and soon finds her self forced into a sanitarium. This drama is slated to hit American theatres on November 7.
Meanwhile, Gwyneth Paltrow returned to the big screen after a break to have her two children. “Hollywood is pretty cutthroat and everybody has got a short memory and there's always somebody younger or hotter or prettier or whatever,” said Paltrow.
Donning a chic off-shouldered black dress for the promotion of her next film James Gray's Two Lovers, which is in competition for this year's Palme D'Or, she looked completely at ease after her sabbatical.
Set in Brooklyn, the film follows the trials and tribulations of a lonely guy, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who's torn between his two lovers of contrasting personalities played by Paltrow and Vinessa Shaw.
Another A-lister who walked the red carpet was Monica Bellucci. And none other than Jackie Chan decided to show off his martial moves on the red carpet for the premiere of Bellucci's film Sangue Pazzo. But that was before the leading lady of the film stole the spotlight dressed in a black and white gown.
Based on a true story, the film is set in 1940s war-torn Italy follows the life of Luisa, a movie star and Osvaldo, her lover. Both were executed at the end of the war for their wild private lives. This Italian film is slated to release in Italy on May 23.
