Anand The vote bank politics has taken precedence over everything in India. Arjun Singh has no solid base either in terms of statistics or other evidences for implementing this reservation.Nor the HRD ministry has any road map for the upliftment of the so called backward class and the way to monitor their progress. If he has no knowledge about the statistics, what the hell he is doing as an HRD minister.Yet It is being done to appease their vote bank. Our very learned PM Mr Manmohan Singh is a mute spectator of all these thing. It wasn't expected out od such a learned person. He has certainly fallen as a politician from such a great economist. He should be ashamed of himself and resign.

Ashish We don't need Pakistan or China. Our ministers are good enough to ruin this country. Everybody knows this is nothing but pure politics. We can't blame only Arjun or Sonia, no party has come forward to oppose this crazy decision taken by government. Agenda of reservation in private sectors is on government's table. This is next step in maintaining vote bank. Future of India is on stake.

Prasad i believe that arjun singh was trying to put a curtain on something which he can't say openly. there must be some hidden agenda as he didn't speak clearly on very crucial issues and he was very-very diplomatic while answering the questions as if he does not want to make the upper cast people angry. he won't be affected by this decision. but the youngsters like us will be affected greatly. he should put forward his point very clearly and in a straight forward manner. this is not politics, this is a our future. thanks Mr. Karan Thapar for putting our point forward.

Gaurav Agarwal The current lot of people running the govt of India (I am not absolutely clear who is running it)- are either too smart for us average intelect Indians to have gathered or are too naive. They seem to be smart because they want to have their cake (read OBC vote bank) and eat it too- they know no matter what ever resv they are given this way the realties of OBC would not change- but they would feel the govt is doing so much for them- and thus the vote bank remains intact. Isn't that what the Cong(I) did to Muslim vote bank and then to SC/ST vote bank for last 55 years!! At the same time by increasing the number the seats (God knows how they are going to do it!) they hope to keep the working force of our country intact.

Or else- they govt people are absolute idiots- they have not been able to see the facts that emerge from the reservation policy over last 6 decades- this policy has not worked for the people whom it is meant for- If at all it has- it has worked for the political parties who have perpetuated this farce on the Indian masses for all these years.

....THANKS TO .............. I DO NOT EVEN WANT TO NAME HIM.HIS RESPONSE TO INTELLIGENT QUESTIONS POSED SHOWS HIS SHREWDNESS AND LACK OF INTELLIGENCE........
I DO NOT WANT MY CHILDREN TO UNDERGO WHAT I WENT THROUGH. 90% in Entrance.......you wont get a seat.......30% the guy walks out with my post graduate seat.He comes in a car, his father is a politician , owns half of the city BUT HE IS OBC. my father is a clerk, we never owned a house but we are forward.............so 90% is less than 30%. I stayed back but as my children were growing up, asking the same questions I asked.......i decided enough is enough...to hell with what you do to country.THE TIME IS NOW TO ASK
WHAT IS YOUR COUNTRY DOING TO YOU NOW?

Supratik Reading the interview really scared me. I wonder what will happen to our future generations...! Honourable (??) minister Mr. Arjun Singh should have done at least his home work before the interview. I guess the only way out for meritorious students is to now somehow get a caste or some OBC certificate. There is a saying in hindi "Bhais ke age been bajana". Anyone who doesnt understand this saying should read this interview.

I had always disliked the movie "Rang de basanti" for the message of violence it propagates. But after reading the interview I have somehow started liking the movie....

And to end I would like to say that at this rate India will always remain a developing country... It will never become a developed country...

Priyanka It is a shame that we still have a caste system in our country, but it is even more shameful that the politicians, instead of trying to do away with the system altogether, are using it as a political tool to cater to their own selfish needs. We are proud to call ourselves a democracy. But we don't have the right to speech, to express our own opinions as is evident from the way in which medical students of Delhi were treated. The IITs and the IIMs are the premium instiutions of this country and it is a crime to compulsorily introduce reservations here since India is being deprived of talented future engineers and managers. Higher education should be made available only on the basis of merit and not on the basis of race or caste or religion or creed. If the goverment is so concerned about the progress of the so called OBCs, then it should take the initiative to open special centers of higher education for them where they would be taught free of cost. In order to boost the economy of India, we need entrepreneurs and visionaries. So I request the goverment to give a fair chance to deserving meretorious students so that they can genuinely contribute to the Indian Economy in the future.

Revati this is unfair for IBN not to allow us to critisize anyone. i mean after all that great work done by Mr. Thappar, and all we million students did the awesome work, the congress govt had the last laugh. is this called democracy??!!?? this isnt done really!

sabaridurai Ok. we will agree with the rules. So we have to force them to implement the rule in politics as like education. For 534 places 27 percentage they will give to obc's and 25 will give it to mbc and some free sheets (without election) goes to SC/ST. So that we under the democratic nation. And one more thing is in ministry they need to allocate 27 for OBC ministers and 25 for MBC ministers and some useless ministers for SC/ST.
