Does anyone of you know that the esteemed Mr. Arjun Singh was amongst the most voracious opponents of Mandal I, when another of our esteemed politician Mr. V P Singh brought it in to effect. But I guess it took Mr. Arjun Singh nearly 16 years to understand the merits of reservation!

Do you know what Arjun Singh's able partner-in-crime has lined up next? Reservation in the private sector jobs as well. It is amazing that even though the govt. doesn't have a justification for the current chaos, it already has a new one up its sleeve. Get together everyone, we need to teach these culprits a befitting lesson.

HRD minister only knows that Parliament has passed,he is a sincere servant and does not say anything

Sherlock James
This interview shows how selfish and cunning our HRD minister is. He doesn't even have the facts and figures right and still wants to pass a law which almost the entire country is against. And the most angering part is the *honorable* minister terms all the agitations against the quota reservation law as a hype. Man how low can you get!

I found in the interview Mr. Karan thapar saying "this is people's view" for his kind information this not people's view this is only view of the few doctors who are portesting. Please dont try to post your view as people's view to prove that your better in argument. Second, he has to understand what is merit, merit is simply outcome of cramming, tutoring and knowledge of english......this is wat merit is defined by us....which obviously most of the backward class people are missing due to their poor living condition. Give them these facitlites u will see growth in their living condition. That is exactly reservation trying to do to change their life style by giving them better opportunities.

Hi Madhan. It seems to me that all the merit parameters given by you in the post are the deltas you faced in life. You probably never came across a guy who possessed true merit inspite of being from a backward class. 60 years of independence have ruled out most inequalities we started off with. A major chunk of the so-called backward class lives in prestine wealth now. Thanks to such unfair advantages as reservations, which do not really even trickle down to those who're needy, just benefit people who're at the right place at the right time. How do you account for the millions who're not gona get a reservation and yet live in the poor conditions you mentioned. The quota is a political game aimed at vote banks, and you're damned not to see it. A day will come when it'll be too late and your kind of mindset would have landed everyone in shit.

you are mistaken if you think this policy is going to provide better opportunities to the poor! It is going to benefit the rich OBCs who can afford to reach college. If you are really concerned about the poor, give them better schools and provide education and job opportunities in every village. Reservation is like crutches - they can help you walk for a while but are not a replacement for legs! If you want to help people walk on their own, help them become stronger by attacking the root cause.

Sure, merit originates from a studying from a young age. They claim that reservations will provide opportunities for the OBCs who've been 'suffering' from poor living conditions. But reservations at the university level are utterly ridiculous. Concentrate instead on providing scholarships to younger students. Let them have an opportunity to 'grow' themselves, gain their own 'merit' & prove that they can get into a college on their own. Without depending on the 'crutch' that is reservation.
Instead of working at the grassroot level, for the ECONOMICALLY UNDERPRIVILEGED & to see that those people can grow, our politicians want to take the shorter route & pretend that reservations in univs will help.
So, in a way, I agree with the person who said that steps are needed to help those suffering from 'backward living conditions, who don't have access to amenities through which they can gain their own ‘merit’. But reservations? They're just an easy way out of addressing the bigger problem out here. Who really benefits? Those who have already had their basic education. Ignore the child labor, the kids begging on the streets. University reservation works for them too, right?

Excellent work by Karan Thaper. Who can explain to these fools that parliament is PEOPLE of INDIA and not fools like them. A major decision concerning whole country is taken by a Minister without knowing anything on the issue. It is pathetic that none of the questions were aswered as a responcible minister. He should be taken to court for his irresponsible behavior. All MPs are only concern about their rights and supremacy. Only God knows where this country will lead to with such useless person in power.
