J Deepa Whether it is the talent alone or caste alone or talent+caste or talent+financial status that is the deciding factor for a person to be given preference over the other in unvs and employment....? Certainly the answer MUST NOT be caste alone. The other 3 options can be dealt and perfectly be solved WITHOUT THE INTRVENTION OF RESERVATION.If all people are not given the same importance it would no more be right to say that India is democratic.

Anand Agarwal I agree with a lot of the comments calling this out as a political agenda. Even the opposition is silent about this because they dont want to burn their fingers.

To look at this from a different perspective, a better way to dealing with this situation is to manage the reservation aspect in a more efficient manner, not letting the seats going vacant if they are not filled and implementing a strict merrit basis even for the reserved category.

If the governemt feels that reservations are mandatory then strengthen the process around it.

The impact of this entire thing will not be felt immd., but 5-10 years down the line when we see incompetent people taking up positions, imagine an incompetent doctor passing out because of the reservation system, sounds scary to me.

I think more than blaming the government we should be more careful in selecting our leaders and the parliament. There is not a lot we can do once they are in power unless the entire country revolts.

Ambarish This turns out to be the grey line. Really ridiculous what the HRD minister has to offer, why the government is not trying to failitate the needy, the poor with financial benefits, are we to be dragged to the line of caste-ism even after 59 years of independence. there are better things to fight for, why not we fight for equality in respect, equality in social justice.
This interview add to that the headlines of today really dishearten the spirits of youth . Why there is always a stand of shadow the general category people will suffer. We have never discriminated colleagues, we have never discriminated our friends on the name of caste, they were well educated, and they got the priviledge to stand out..
this government is not doing any better, the hunger strike ,the off-road protest are just being the prey for ourselves, Its really bad to see guys are dieing on the name of protests, is the Goverment really dumb, or extra conscious to pull out votes.

We stand against any reservations, Let the Merit come into picture. If the Quota pro goverment will not do anything in this concern, they dont' have any rights to play with millions of careers.

SACK the HRD minister

Nikhil Reservations are a sure recipe for bringing the quality of students who graduate out of college. My simple question to Mr. Arjun Singh is: will he get his heart surgery gone by a candidate how really had no quality education all his life just got in a medical college because of reservation and finally manages to get thru hopefully after say 4 attempts.. and finally gets a job in a Govt college again on reservation.
Do I have to say any further why our Politicians go to other countries to get treated...

Shatarupa The current reservation policy in India is beyond logical. It is unbelievable, that in this day and age, when we talk about economic progress and class equality, we take steps backward. This policy will create a generation who will be unwilling to work and will get entry in colleges, promotions etc. based on their caste criterion. The benefits will not be reaped by the rural poor but will be exploited by those who have been availing such benefits for decades. These policies create a bigger rift in the society bringing in resentment in the mind of the general public. It is shameful that an individual does not stand a chance even though he is more meritorious since someone who is less worthy has a surname attached to his name which is more valuable. True, many are in need of reservations, but due to financial conditions not otherwise. People in our country do not lack intelligence just the finances to make it to expensive colleges. Extend financial aid to those who need it so that they stand a chance of being in the best colleges. But reserving seats for them based on the social hierarchy is pathetic and derogatory to their mental capabilities and unfair to the general public.

Palani Nama Well, I feel its high time that our Indian constitution brings in some norms or qulaification for all the MPs MLAs and Ministers. After all those are such important positions which can influence anybodies life in this country and the direction in which our coutry's future is headed. I guess we should stop encourraging morons to contest in elections just because they have enough money or power.

chirag I think watever decision taken by government is wrong. If they want to implement the OBC quota policy then why they have choosen the Education Field.IF they wanted to implement the Quota policy then it should be implemented globally it means in each and every field.Start from the politics, sports,PRivate sectors...and many more...Why they wanted to implement the quota pilicy for Education...Why they have targeted the Education field. In india people are working hard to get the admission in IIM,IITs and medical for their further prospectus.I think they are the deserving people who devote their time, energy for it........I just wanted to sumerise that watever decisions government are taking is rubbish and they are dividing the INDIA and indian youth who are the future of INDIA.
