When are we gonna learn from the past? When do we learn that appeasing all at the same time is not possible? What make things work is being just & seing in light of facts.
A minister of HRD is saying that he's not a decision maker,is not a leader and is a mere follower. How can he come to a public interview without facts?
I agree that decisions are made by our Soverign body, by parliament & with consensus of all members but then is it not the responsibility of the minister concerned to see all facets of such steps. To ensure what is being done & presented to parliament body strictly examined for all consequences.
How are ministers of the likes of Arjun Singh responsible for the overall growth of India as a super-power.
Agreed that OBCs and SC/STs need support , their upliftment is most necessary for overall development of India. But at the cost of quality?
Is Indian democratic system always going to be at the whims and wishes of biased politicians who think only from election to election. Who for their false reputations petty grudges refuse to work as team and misuse their powers?

It is important for the Center to understand that their intervention in the Educaltion sector. It seems that the Govt is taking things for granted. It is also very important for the youth to show solidarity against the caste based reservations. The Industry is against reservation, Educational institutions are against reservation, majority students are against reservation. In such a scenario, we all should make sure that we all vote against the Congress Govt in the next election... Bala

it really hurts to know that we live in a country under such leaders .If the issue was regarding poverty and right to education ,then all the years at the primary level have been forgotten?.The leaders dont think of reservations at that level .Mr Singh just covered it up with the sentance -'its the parliament decision'.One can go to the height of losing your self respect for votes!!

Hello People, It seems a Good Discussion is going on, on Anti-Reservation. But tell me who is listening. Here are a very few people of us who are actually reading this discussion. The actual population of India is living villages which is not at all aware of this situation. This population of India still believes that the ruling party people are ancestors of few freedom fighters! Again I don’t think somebody who is not basically Indian can actually do something good for this nation. Their internal politics will ruin this country. We need to make aware our brothers & sisters from rural India about this fact. We also need to make them aware that how this government is ruining the future of India.

I just love the way KARAN THAPAR conducts his interview. But the interview with ARJUN SINGH was the best. he just made our minister speechless.he didnt have any answer and threw them on the parliament to answer forgetting that he himself is a member of parliament and he is also answerable as much as others. this really freaks me out wondering India is in such hands where they dont even know the basic stats on which their proposal depends. I m also certainly against the quota system. The OBCs dont need Quota but quality education from primary level. i guess the parliament is forgetting providing quota at higher education level is like giving cruntches to our fellow students who get seats in quotas. there is no future of india if quota even prevailed at higher level. i m feeling betrayed n cheated by my own govt. what is needed is not quota but quality education as i said earlier. by giving support to OBCs they are taking away a future of many students. this is only going to increase the corruption in India. i would only wish govt finds a alternative solution to this than provide quota when they are actually not needed.

After reading this interview,i feel that Mr.arjun singh has not done his homework. His "i am not aware, i do not know, i would not like to comment" answers clearly show that he is completely biased on this issue. He deliberately wants to maintain tha veil of secrecy between the government and the very people whom this issue concerns. He himself is not aware of many facts which he ought to know as the hrd minister. And inspite of his lack of knowledge on the subject concerned, he is neither ready to accept any of the facts produced by any of the govt or ngo organisations, nor those put forward by our IITs and IIMs.I think if our country has to march ahead, we dont need such ministers.I am very sorry to repeat the statement which many of us have made time and again...."is desh ka kuch nahin ho saktaa".

it was the most irresponsible answer which was given by our minister.Every GO should be usefull to all or atleast majority people. This reservation order hurts majority people.

Well done Mr.Karan! Sir, can we have similar interview of Dr.Manmohan Singh?? Isn't it an irony that in the nation of Mahatma Gandhi who taught us that everyone is equal, we are dividing the modern society again on the basis of caste? I feel all the caste system should be done away with & those who are below BPL shud be helped in certain ways but certainly not by reservations. I am a student & in my class i see many students who have SC/ST quota, but are otherwise big landholders in their respective villages. We all just can't understand that which language these politicians understand? We surely need a REAL LIFE "Rang de Basanti"!!

good job karan. u cut arjun singh to size. arjun singh, for his part, looked very awkward answering the questions. he sounded totally evasive and ignorant of the ground realities. kept on repeating the same thing abt parliament taking the decision! but then, it only highlights the apathy towards the general public. how will govt raise the Rs 8000 crores required to increase the number of seats, so as to maintain parity for the general category of students? would the 2% education cess be increased to 20%?
even after knowing that this decision is not based on sound rational thinking, what can we, as the general public do, other than sporadic protests or petitions? we are absolutely powerless to reverse the decisions taken by the powers that be.
this is totally unacceptable in a democracy. pls show us a way forward.

Never again say that we as the general public can't do anything. People power is enormous, we just need to realize how to use it. If our ancestors could bring the British Raj to its knees, why can't we bring sense to our own people.
The citizens need to realize as long as we keep shunning politics as dirty game, this will be the situation. To bring about a difference we need to join the decision making body
