MERRY CHRISTMAS: industry sees no reason for a slowdown in the scorching growth.
New Delhi: Its Christmas time and it’s that time of the year when fancy decoration pieces top your shopping list.
After all Christmas is synonymous with the Christmas tree and adorning these tree are these trinkets. It’s also the time for the Christmas decoration industry to mint some serious moolah.
Archies Joint MD Pramod Arora says, “Four-five years ago we started with 15-20 lakhs but when we see the encouraging response in the last 4-5 years we have grown 10-12-15 times."
Along with the staggering growth in the industry, shopkeepers are also trying to cope with a rapidly changing and more informed client.
Mehra Bros Joint Partner Leena Mehra says, “I'm usually serving the foreigner client and the sales are three times compared to year round sales. I also have some Indian clients now due to increasing awareness."
And with the increasing awareness comes the increase in demand. So what is going into your tree this year?
Arora says, “The main reason for growth today is that more and more people are celebrating Christmas over the years. Its not about religion its about celebration. Today you'll find all the hotels, malls, shops and houses being decorated even by non-Christians."
The Christmas bells cost Rs 90 while the Christmas trees cost Rs 120 and with the Christmas decoration industry growing at a rocketing speed Christmas has become much more than these trinkets.
In fact it’s a multi-crore industry with shopkeepers earning up to Rs 60,000-Rs 70,000 per day during the peak season.
So while the retail trade hopes the good times will continue, industry sees no reason for a slowdown in the scorching growth of the last few years.
Sharad Goyal from Kriti Creations says, “Christmas is a 15-20 days affair for us in India. We wind up our Diwali festival and then Christmas is like a mini-Diwali. Hope it will become like a Diwali in India."
Here's wishing all a Merry decorated Christmas.
