New Delhi: A 47-year-old businessman was shot dead in a busy south Delhi street on Monday. The assailants are still at large, but initial investigations point to a property-related killing.

Arun Gupta was leaving home in his car at 10 am on Monday when three men on a bike allegedly cornered him, shot at him and fled. Gupta was rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

Gupta was shot dead in broad daylight right in the middle of a busy street and in front of a row of shops. It was as bold a murder as can be right in the heart of the Capital.

The hunt for the culprits is still on, but the police have a basic lead

DCP South, H S Dhaliwal says, "Initial investigations suggest that there were some personal family problems. But we are investigating the matter and should be able to clarify a little later."

Whether that family problem was a property dispute is being probed, but Gupta's relatives are playing it down.

A family friend of Gupta's Prince Chaddha says, "There are property disputes in every family. This was no different, nothing so bad that things had to lead to this conclusion."

Police sources say some of Gupta's relatives have been detained for questioning. But the larger picture remains that brazen acts of crime continue to haunt the national Capital.
