BURNING ISSUE: Victim's sister-in-law Sarika says the police is not keeping the family informed.
New Delhi: The husband of Tarveen Suri, who was severely injured in the Capital after an acid attack by two unidentified men outside her home in the upmarket Greater Kailash area of Delhi, has admitted to an affair with a female colleague named Rachna.
Tarveen's relatives allege that she had been receiving threatening phone calls for several days from Rachna. Her family also says she had complained about being followed.
“The police have not told us anything. The girl who is allegedly involved is out of town. Her involvement will be investigated only when she gets back,” victim's sister-in-law Sarika Bawa said.
Tarveen’s attackers had poured acid and kerosene on her and then tried to set her on fire on Saturday night.
Tarveen, a former teacher of fashion designing, is admitted in Delhi's Safadarjung Hospital with 80 per cent burns and is in a critical condition.
According to police Tarveen’s husband Naveen's proximity with Rachna was apparently the bone of contention between the couple.
"We have asked Rachna to join the investigations and she is likely to arrive on Tuesday. It's very difficult to say anything with certainty at this stage,” DCP (south) Anil Shukla said.
Tarveen’s mother-in-law, Kusum Suri, who also sustained burn injuries while trying to save her, said the assailants fled from the scene on a motorbike soon after the incident.
“I did not see anything. Tarveen came running inside and as I tried to save her, I also received injuries," she said.
According to police, Tarveen’s mother-in-law and her two-year-old child were in the house when the incident occurred.
Naveen, who was in Goa at the time of the incident, returned to Delhi on Sunday morning. The police questioned Naveen till late on Sunday night.
