The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will start desealing the sealed properties in unauthorised colonies, village abadis and their extensions Wednesday onwards, said the Chairman of the Standing Committee Vijender Gupta.

The decision to deseal properties follows issuance of a notification by the Union Ministry of Urban Development on January 30, 2008.

In this context, Mr Gupta disclosed that the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee constituted, in a letter sent to the MCD, directed that no property should be desealed as per the January 30 notification.

Mr Gupta, however, said that after informing that Lt Governor of Delhi on Wednesday, MCD will start desealing action. An affidavit has also been filed in the Supreme Court to this effect.

He said that besides the MCD, various local bodies like the DDA,

NDMC, Delhi Cantonment Board etc have also to take action on this

notification.

''However, not waiting for these local bodies, MCD has decided to start desealing,'' Mr Gupta said adding that, of the sealed

properties, more than 70 per cent are to be sealed by the DDA.

Mr Gupta said that earlier, the Union Urban Development Ministry issued a notification on September 15 last year after which sealing of properties in unauthorised colonies, village abadies and their extensions was stopped.

''Since, there was no provision of desealing in this notification, the properties sealed prior to September 15 could not be desealed. Now, after a lapse of four and a half months, the Union Ministry has issued notification on January 30, and MCD is going to start desealing action,'' Mr Gupta said.
