ROAD TO REVELRY: The 21-kilometre Half Marathon had top-notch athletes from India and 25 other countries taking part.
New Delhi: Delhi was on the run on Sunday morning in the city's third Half Marathon – the richest in the world, with a prize money of $1,60,000.
There were four events for around 30,000 people. And taking the lead were senior citizens and disabled people with a spirit that could give most a run for their money.
"Today I have forgotten I am 54 years old. Honestly I am enjoying thoroughly,” said a participant.
Leading lady Priyanka Chopra and bad man Gulshan Grover flagged off the first race. And former cricket captain Rahul Dravid made a reticent but encouraging appearance. Model and actor Milind Soman actually took part in the race. The politicians turned up too, but why weren't they running?
"You cannot recognise the politicians because they are wearing clothes like the others,” said MP & President, IOA, Suresh Kalmadi.
The 21-kilometre Half Marathon had top-notch athletes from India and 25 other countries taking part. Every record in the Delhi Half Marathon was broken, with African athletes leading the pack.
“I was confident I would win,” said Winner, Delhi Half Marathon (Men), Diudone Disi.
More than 18,000 citizens took part in the Delhi Great Run. And not all of them ran to win. Many were promoting a cause drawing attention to city issues, endorsing products. And for a minute, we even thought we were witnessing a fashion show. For most though, it was all about the fun.
