New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has restrained the CBI from filling a closure report in the 1984 riots case.

Key witness Jasbir Singh had approached the High Court saying CBI might close the case to help accused Jagdish Tytler.

The protest days are over and now the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots believe that justice will be delivered. Key witness Jasbir Singh raised their hopes by agreeing to testify against main accused Jagdish Tytler.

On Monday the Delhi High Court boosted their morale further by restraining CBI from closing this case till a decision is taken on how Jasbir's testimony can be recorded.

“It is a huge victory. CBI was arguing that they are not sure about Jasbir's veracity but for that they can go to us and check," says H S Phulka, Lawyer, Carnage Committee.

Both the investigating agency and the main accused had questioned Jasbir's credibility. It was alleged that Jasbir was a proclaimed offender in an assault case and therefore didn't want to come to India. However, on Monday the story took a turn after Darshan Kaur, the alleged victim gave him a clean chit.

“Tytler is citing my case only for his own benefit, I have never seen or met Jasbir," says Darshan Kaur, riot victim.

The CBI will now have to tell the Karkardooma court on Jan 16th, it plans to ensure Jasbir's testimony and the status of investigations so far.

With the High Court supporting Jasbir's case and even the alleged victim of his assault giving a clean chit, the pitch has been queered for Jagdish Tytler and the CBI.
