New Delhi: Haven’t most us sipped our first glass of drink by 18? And there is little that you could do to stop it.
However, the authorities have realised it. In a recent development, the excise department has recommended that the permissible drinking age in Delhi should be brought down from 25 to 21.
Even if the official age for alcohol consumption had been made 21, not many would care. CNN-IBN talked to some of the children on the street.
And there were responses like:
“It hardly matters to me. I don't care about the age limit.”
"People who are 18, wont wait till they are 21 to drink."
"In most clubs and pubs, the main funding comes from teenagers.”
But there were the ‘other’ kind who said:
“Once you start drinking, its very difficult for a youngster to stop.”
"Sensible people can take it at 21. You can try it and see what happens.”
The recommendation of course still has to be cleared by the Delhi cabinet, but chances are, only a few would take it seriously.
To implement the drinking age limit, stringent checking is required at pubs and liquor shops, as pub owners don't want to compromise on business and teens on pleasure.

"Haven't most of us started drinking in 18" - well if you started at 18 please don't proclaim it publicly.
