Mumbai: A TADA court, hearing the 1993 serial bomb blasts case, on Tuesday adjourned till Wednesday the plea of Delhi Police to hand over the custody of extradited gangster Abu Salem in an extortion case.

Designated judge P D Kode posted the matter for Wednesday saying that CBI had not yet filed the trial schedule of Salem in the 1993 bomb blasts case.

Only after that he would decide on sending Salem to Delhi, the judge noted.

The judge observed that although the trial of Salem has been separated from the other accused in the 1993 bomb blasts case it would be necessary for the court to go through the CBI schedule for the trial before deciding to send him to Delhi.

A team of Delhi Police was present in the court. They also filed an undertaking that they would take Salem to the Capital with proper escort and arrange for heavy security of the gangster.

They also undertook to bring him back to TADA court in Mumbai as and when the designated judge directed them.

Earlier, the Delhi Police team had submitted a production warrant to seek the custody of Salem in the extortion case registered against him in Delhi but the TADA court asked CBI to file a schedule on his trial in the 1993 blasts case.

In Mumbai, Salem is facing trial in the 1993 bomb blasts case, Ajit Dewani murder case and Pradeep Jain murder case.

These three cases were cited by the Government in a Portugal court to seek his extradition. The trial of Salem in these cases is not yet over.

Salem was extradited from Portugal in November last year and since then he is in custody.
