Delhi rolls out the red carpet for Men in Blue

CAPITAL EXCITEMENT: Members of the Indian cricket team wait for the felicitation ceremony to begin.
New Delhi: Chocolate cake, strawberries and a live band — a feast fit for the Gods awaited the Indian cricket team as it reached Delhi’s Hotel Intercontinental on Thursday afternoon.
The team then proceeded to the Feroz Shah Kotla cricket stadium where the felicitation ceremony for its incredible victory over Australia in the tri-series has begun.
The team – led by Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni – has won its first one day series Down Under in 23 years, clinching the CB Series 2-0 over the world champions, Australia.
The team reached Mumbai on Thursday morning and landed in Delhi minus fielding coach Robin Singh and bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad who have stayed back in Mumbai.
"It was a brilliant victory. Everyone played well and the youngsters performed well," Robin Singh told newsmen in Mumbai.
The cricket board and the Delhi Cricket Association have ensured the superheroes get a fitting welcome. Fans too will have a field day as entry to the stadium open to all.
The staff at Hotel Intercontinental laid out the red carpet and prepared chocolate cake, pastries, sugared strawberries and even arranged for champagne and French wine for the victorious team. The Men in Blue were also treated to some cheese and fruit.
And sleeping during the one-hour halt will however be out of the question, thanks to a loud band at the hotel.
