Delhi trying hard to cope with crime

CRIME WAVE: Narendra Kumar was murdered in his shop in Lajpat Nagar’s central market.
New Delhi: Delhi is trying to cope with its own share of problems with the rising incidents of violent crime.
The latest crime that shocked the capital was the stabbing of Narendra Kumar, the manager of the Meena Bazar saree showdown, in his shop in Lajpat Nagar’s central market late on Monday evening.
Police are yet to identify the killer and the motive behind the crime.
"It was a friendly entry. There's no evidence of loot, theft etc,” says DCP (South), HGS Dhaliwal.
Earlier in the day 60-year-old businessman Raghubir Mittal and his nephew Pawan Mittal were driving home from work when a Maruti Esteem stopped them near Kohat enclave in West Delhi.
One of the four occupants in the car then opened fire killing the duo on the spot and critically injuring their driver Sanjeev. Police say it may have been a case of personal enmity.
"Circumstances suggest that it was a case of personal enmity. We are not ruling out a property dispute,” says DCP (West), Manish Agarwal.
And that's not all. At 0700 hrs (IST) on Monday, a 25-year-old man was burnt alive in Delhi's Vikaspuri area.
The badly charred body was found in a passage between two apartments.
The man is yet to be identified but since his legs were tied police believe it was a case of murder and not self-immolation.
Barely hours after the two businessmen were shot down in west Delhi, the murder of the manager of this showroom in South Delhi not only re-affirms Delhi's image as the crime capital but also points to the crying need for better policing of the national capital region.
