New Delhi: It’s the marriage season and wedding bells are ringing for many an eligible bachelor and spinster.

If you too are being tempted by the big M and haven’t yet figured out your ideal mate, worry not.

You are not the only one in that sort of a situation as there are many more near-desperate bachelors and Bridget Jones around.

Twenty-eight-year-old Biya Sandhu's is cabin crewmember with a leading airlines company. Single and independent, Sandhu is at a crucial juncture of her life where when most women her age are married.

She too is eager to wear "the ring", and is going all out to make sure she gets the one who will take the leap with her. "I go to parties, socialise, meet friends, friend's friends, thinking if I can give anyone a shot,” she says.

But there's a hitch. "There are no men there is such a dearth of good positive perfect men you really have to go hunting and even if you go hunting you don't see them anymore," she says.

On an average more than 68 per cent of women applicants on marriage portals like shaadi.com and jeevansathi.com are above 25 years of age.

"Saying how the average age of marriage in urban India has increased and that has primarily to do with the financial independence," says sociologist Mary John.

Today's single Indian woman is driven by the desire to get the best of her professional and personal world and finding the proverbial Mr Right is not always easy.

This perennial search for that perfect partner has led Sandhu to find company in books like Bridget Jones Diary and some candy floss cinema.
