The evergreen Dev Anand himself was present at the screening and it was a trip down memory lane for the Bollywood veteran.
"People called me mad for making Guide at the time. They also thought I made a wrong decision by playing a saint who dies in the end at a point in my career when I was a romantic star. People said the film will go down the drain and I will lose everything from my pocket," says Anand.
Guide was one of the finest films made by Vijay Anand and was based on a book by RK Narayan.
"When I decided to make Guide, I called Mr RK Narayan from California. I had never met him. He asked if I was the famous film star Dev Anand, and I said yes. He was very happy to hear my voice. I told him i wanted to make his book into a film and that I want to play the guide. He was very glad to hear that," Anand recalls.
Released in 1965, Guide had Dev Anand and Waheeda Rahman as its leading star cast.
