New Delhi: There is trouble for the Congress where Sethusamudram project is concerned. The DMK prefers to dump coalition concerns when it comes to the project.

The Congress leadership managed to enforce discipline and silence those lambasting Culture Minister, Ambika Soni as it was her ministry that bungled on the Sethu affidavit. The party spokesperson said there shouldn't be any talking out of turn.

“The stand of the government is clear and therefore there will be no occasion to speak about this issue,” says Spokesperson, Congress, Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

But restoring order at home doesn't mean that concerns of the allies have been addressed.

The DMK that made the canal a poll plank is refusing to play ball. Shipping Minister and DMK leader T R Baalu told the media that the canal project is very much on.

It is obvious that he is only reiterating what his leader, M Karunanidhi has already underlined.

In a statement Baalu says - "The government would soon approach the Supreme Court and obtain appropriate orders to continue working in this region and is confident of completing the project at the earliest.”

Baalu is treading the path chosen by the UPA government, and the BJP has been quick to point that out.

“Who is doing politics? The Congress is doing it under pressure and also my DMK friends who have their own interest. That is why I charge the government who coming under DMK’s pressure and also to have compensatory politics of appeasement,” says Spokesperson, BJP, Ravi Shankar Prasad.

For the government, the Ram Sethu is proving to be an unbridgeable divide.

If it toes the DMK line, it commits political harakiri especially with a snap poll likely.

And if it keeps its majority vote bank happy, the rift with the DMK may widen.
