New Delhi: It was a tragic Thursday morning for two construction workers in east Delhi when a speeding car hit them.

The 21-year-old driver of the car was drunk. He killed one person and seriously injured the other.

Twenty-two-year-old Imran is in a state of shock. His life has changed forever. Lying on this hospital bed, surrounded by nurses, he hasn't been able to come to terms with what hit him and his friend early Thursday morning.

Imran says, “We were working on the road and all of a sudden this car came a tremendous speed and hit us. I fell and after that I don’t remember a thing."

Imran lost consciousness but his co-workers described the accident.

“Two of our co-workers were sitting here when a car rammed at high speed. The rest of us rushed forward to help them but one of them died immediately on the spot," says an eyewitness.

And here's the man who's responsible for this - 21-year-old Davender Singh. He is now in police custody, desperately trying to hide his face.

But can in no way hide the crime he's committed, he was behind the wheels in a drunken state and so were his friends.

The accused has been charged with causing death due to negligence and rash driving.

Fast cars and drunk drivers - a killer combination. And it’s this combination that took the life of an innocent construction worker Thursday morning.

It remains to be seen whether the guilty will be convicted and given the punishment he deserves.

That is the deterrent we need so that similar incidents in the future are not repeated.
