The unrest in Jammu and Kashmir over land grant to the Amarnath shrine board continues. One person died and three were injured when the police fired on protesters in Srinagar. Thousands of people came out on to the streets in Srinagar on Wednesday after rumours that Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had forcibly entered homes. CNN-IBN spoke to S N Sahai, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, about these allegations.

CNN-IBN: There were allegations on Wednesday of CRPF barging into the houses. Are you probing the allegations?. What are you doing to restore the confidence of the people?

S M Sahai:There have been allegations of this kind and we are looking into it. In certain cases it seems from prima-facie investigations that there may be some truth in this allegation. Some fairly stringent administrative action has already been taken.

CNN-IBN: What are the measures you are taking to restore the confidence? We saw people of Srinagar coming out and complaining about CRPF

S M Sahai:There are complaints. When you have large-scale violence taking place, large-scale stone pelting taking place, instant wars taking place then the response of the force on the ground is difficult to determine without a proper investigation. So we will look into instances where excesses have been allegedly taken place. We will see if excessive force has been used.

We would also like to investigate cases where people have died, because it is fairly high number and is unacceptable to us as policemen.

CNN-IBN: Can you talk about the administrative action the Government have taken?

S M Sahai:There have been administrative action but it is not proper to say what has been done as it would affect the morale of the force but there has been stringent action.

CNN-IBN: Are trucks moving between Jammu and Kashmir?

S M Sahai:Supplies have been coming. Almost 260 trucks come from Jammu (to Kashmir) on Thursday carrying fuel and other essential supplies. Fruit trucks from the Valley have arrived. A total of 64 trucks between last night and this morning have left the Valley.
