HAWALA SCAM: Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will face the Vigilance Bureau probe.
Chandigarh: Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will face the Vigilance Bureau probe for his alleged involvement in the Ludhiana city centre scam case. The department has found incriminating evidence against Amarinder and his family members in a pen drive recovered from an alleged conduit.
A pen drive was recovered from alleged conduit, Chetan Gupta who is the owner of the RL Gupta group of companies in New Delhi. Gupta has named nearly 80 beneficiaries of Hawala transactions including several members of Amarinder Singh's family.
“An FIR has been lodged under various sections. But I cannot comment on the charges,” Ajit Singh Sidhu Deputy District Attorney Vigilance Bureau said.
Investigators believe Gupta has a Swiss Bank account and his account books reveal the payments made to different beneficiaries. Alarmed at the revelations, the son and son-in-law of Capt Amarinder Singh have obtained anticipatory bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The family, however, dismisses it as a case of political vendetta.
“Honourable High Court has allowed anticipatory bail to both of them in the Ludhiana city scam. The court has also held that it is a case of political vendetta and it has also been held that its not a case where interrogation is needed,” Vinod Ghai Counsel for Raninder Singh Vigilance Bureau said.
The ruling party though denies it is influencing the probe.
“This vigilance probe is an independent one and we will not interfere in it,” said SAD MP Sukhbir Badal.
The noose is tightening on the former Punjab Chief Minister. The Vigilance department says Rs 21 crores were transferred to Amarinder's son Raninder Singh's account on the day the auction in the Ludhiana City Centre project was conducted. Clearly, there's a lot of answering that Amarinder and his family members have to do.

Badal is the current CM and Amrinder Singh is the EX CM.
