Gandhinagar: Former Gujarat chief minister Keshubhai Patel’s wife, Leelaben (76), died in a major fire at his residence in Gandhinagar on Thursday morning.
The cause of the fire is suspected to be short circuit.
The incident took place when Leelaben, alone in her room, tried to switch on an exercising machine.
After some time, Keshubhai, who was in the nearby room, saw smoke coming out of Leelaben's room and shouted for help.
When they opened the door, they found the burnt body of Leelaben.
Patel’s son-in-law, Shetal Patel said, "Keshubhai is in a state of shock".
Following the incident, Chief Minister Narendra Modi, other ministers and BJP leaders have rushed to Patel's residence.
