Quote: I don’t believe this is so much a problem about sex-starvation, I think it’s more about lawlessness. Hang 10-15 of these men or cut them off and we’ll see how many of them have the guts to do it again,” said Geetika Ganjoo.
My comment: Geetika's views are reactions and lack the rationality required to solve problems. No problem can be solved at the level it is created and when one goes to a level above it one will begin to see the "bad" as "sick" and understand that punishment is not any solution but a necessary evil required to sustain our model of the world since it isn't perfect. We don't steal and burn other people's homes because we are afraid of serving in the prison when everything is fine with us. If we do then the real solution would be to work on the things that are not working fine. The path to solve this problem like any other problem lies in understanding the reasons behind it. People who avoid understanding a situation to a length and try to solve the problem using fear are the ones who actually do not have the faith in the eventual goodness of truth and the existence of a solution for all. Fear is a poison, not a medicine. We sometimes need to use it but that is NOT solving the problem but avoiding it or in fact rather worse.
To explain this with an analogy: You are a teacher in a class and you find students talking within themselves rather than paying attention. You punish them and fearfully they don't talk. Take this to a hypothetical extreme in order to understand what kind of actions lead us towards what kind of results and let’s hang or behead the students doing that. You almost surely fix the problem at hand firmly and for a long time to come BUT you bring in something worse!!
The point is that it is necessary to punish the offenders but planning punishments is not the road to solutions.

The commentators claim that one incident has suddenly made Mumbai a nightmare city is preposterous. Such incidents can and do happen in any big city around the world. Though justice is swift elsewhere. As far the incident is concerned, I do believe in a democracy people have a right to expression and can and should be able to freely roam around anywhere at any time without fear of harm. It is the responsibility of the society to address such incidents and provide justice which creates an example for future wrong doers. The punishments need to be to the fullest extent of that permitted by law. Indians definitely are sex starved and the overall societal idea of shunning sexual gratification by engaging in a wholesome relationship with the opposite sex is not helping.

this is a real sorry state of affairs..it wont be appropriate to jump on to any conclusions without having an insight..i think the molestors, media and Most importantly the organizers of such shows which capitalize upon cheap moves of some half clad women celebs have to share the blame coz they are the real preachers of nudity.. Women arent to be blamed at all unless they are too skimpily dressed..

Sir, Regarding the molestation case it is the police and the public both are to be blamed. In the first place is it necessary for the familiy people involving women to attend such parties till midnight and come out openly facing an unruly and drunken crowd. The freedom necessarily doesnt mean waywardness. One should have some responsiblity towards the people with whom they go. Unnecssary invitation for trouble should be avoided. In the particular case it seems that the two women with their couple of friends walked out of the hotel past midnight and the unruly mob attacked them. Though it deserves condemnation the people affected are equally responsible.
As regards the police they wait till such things happen and after a couple of enquiries they tend to forget about the whole incident till such a thing happens which is pathetic to state the least.
I stay in Rajajinager, Bangalore and am a retired employee. I see crowds near the hotels, cigaratte shops, near the colleges and schools. There are young and old alike who dont have any business to be there but simply lioter around to tease woment and girls and the public are mute sepectators. Even the police turn blind eye till any nasty thing happens. If this sort of crowd is controlled and are not allowed to be there althrough the day without any purpose, such things might not happen.

Is the media Sex-starved? Does the media think its a part of the "Indians" or does it think its beyond that defintion? Personally, I think the media feeds on sensationalizing incidents.... 1:45 AM in the night, half clad sexy woman walks on the road among drunk men. Who should be blamed? ---Is it Liquor? The designer wear--which is tantalizingly seductive?...did we miss something here? We do not live in a land of Buddhas.
If you are ready to wear a "modern" attire in such situations, you should also be ready to get your bottom pinched too. It happens even at Times Square, New York on on New Years eve. Yes, I am talking about bottom-pinching.
Hope the media gets realistic and people little more sensible and realize they do not live in fairy tale land. The Cinderella's have to wait their turn. It isnt time yet for their romantic walks on the beach. Probably, they could go and watch Saawariya or some other fantasy. Meanwhile, let the media focus on some good initiatives which some responsible people are attempting on the same New year's eve..like charity etc.
Are we there yet?

You are highly mistaken about the whole thing.First of all, the women were not clad in designer sexy clothes, they were in jeans and skirt below knee length. Dont try to justify such acts by putting the blame on women ,a women is also a human being and has a right to go where she wants. 60 men jumping over two women is just a reflection of the sick mentality such people have. Its not just about new year , even on streets ,buses and other public places , some men behave in a very lecherous way, it actually seems they are sex starved.
