New Delhi: World number one Roger Federer has won his first title of the year though not in a fashion he would have liked. Federer took the Estoril Open title after world number four NIkholay Davydenko retired hurt in the second set of the match.
The swiss master took the first set in a tie breaker, but Davydenko came back in the second. He was leading 2-1 when he conceded the match due to a leg injury. This victory was Federer's 54th career title and he was delighted with a win on clay.
"It's just nice winning a clay court title again. I've been so close so many times in Rome, Hamburg, Monaco, the French Open and I've tried so hard you know, but every time Rafa (Nadal) is always there in the draw and I couldn't win. This time was different though. I beat a top ten payer in the final and it was a good week, with tough conditions so I couldn't be more happy and I'm looking forward to the rest," said after the win.
