Ranchi: The mysterious death of Abhishek Mishra, an engineering student from Ranchi, has snowballed into a raging controversy in his home-state Jharkhand.

Abhishek, a student of BIT-Mesra had reportedly drowned while picnicking at Ranchi's Dasham falls.

The case could have been dismissed as a commonplace accident has been complicated after speculation that Abhishek was a close friend Railway Minister Lalu Prasad’s daughter Ragini, who was present at the time of his death.

Abhishek’s family is inconsolable and suspects foul play.

“This is unbelievable. His body has wounds, which can't be there if at all he's drowned,” says Abhishek’s sister Shilpi.

Shilpi is in Delhi with her family and is pleading for an enquiry into his death.

“Those who had gone with him are untraceable. Had they been genuine, they would have faced me,” says Abhishek’s father S C Mishra.

Despite all the requests, Jharkhand Chief minister Madhu Koda has ruled out a request for a CBI probe for now.

But the family's alleges Ragini and Abhishek were quite close to each other and it was she who had informed the family of the boy’s death.

"Abhishek and Ragini were good friends for last four years. I can't define their relationship," says Mishra.

Abhishek's parents say his personal belongings, including his laptop haven't been returned to them and claim the real picture would emerge if they are retrieved.
