Mr. Ambumani's appeal to stop consuming liquor, tobacco publicly as they are rolemodels for millions. Well, warning celebrity about it, is not the complete mission, its part of his mission. Then why this fuss over it.
..Mr SRK talking about creative liberty, Mr Bachhan challanging it like galli-fight.
What these Gentlemen are talking is not surprising, in fact it is (subconsciously)collective response of Art fraternity to their responsibility. Why Indian Art is so timid and brittle has answer in these responses.

This is an example of how power corrupts. This guy became the health minister because of his dad's political clout and has the temerity to insult one of the country's top cardiac surgeons. True, he is a doctor himself, but does that give him unlimited power to drag down a highly respected professional who sacrificed his entire life in the service of patients?. He is not ashamed enough to resign from his position as health minister because as we all know, Indian politicos have no shame.

What is Ramadoss's problem if we are drinking and smoking. As long as there is age restriction say 18 or 21, he should shut his mouth and let us drink and smoke. We have the right to live the way we want. Ramadoss should not drink and smoke and it will be good for his health. Thank you.

I don't know why Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss is so obsessed with an aim to derail the image of Indian actors. Smoking and drinking are health issues not only in India but also in other parts of the world. No minister in USA or UK has ever tried to blame or stop actors smoking or drinking on screen. He seems to be worried about the actors and actresses than the citizens, like his father he has chosen the path to attack filmstars rather than asking for their support in anti-smoking and anti-alcohol campaign.

The stance of Film Industry to the Minister's suggestion tobar Smoking & Drinking is ridiculous. It is shocking to see the remarks reported to have been made by Mrs Sharmila Tagore & Sri Amitab Bachan. Both of them being well recognised figures in the Film Industry should rather have endorsed the Minister's suggestions which are definitely well intended from Health preservation angle. There is no pride factor involved in welcoming the minister's suggestions & getting the same initiated in the Screen .This will definitely go a long way to educate the Common masses not to imitate blindly whatever their idols would tend to do on movies. It is ridiculous to counter a well minded proposal tending to dismiss the same under the pretext of the initiative to be taken to get the suggestion implimentd in the Government Departments before mooting for Film Industry.Persons like Amithab & Mrs Sharmila should support strongly in the light of their popular image instead of playing Negative.Film Industry has a very Great Social Responsibility to set moral trends & not give room for destruction of morality.Instances like violence/Rapes/Murders etc are directly attributable to screening similar themes in movies that are blindly followed by some of the sensitive minded masses causing harm to Society at large.

its a shame that amitabh bachan talks this way as if Ramdoss is serving liquor to all the government servants every evening. why dont indian celebrities learn from our own Pullela Gopichand who refused to model for colas and Bret Lee who didnt bother to lose a million dollars instead of modelling for liquor, and even recently refused to drink in some party ( regarding Alan Border). Afterall Ramdoss is making noise about evils like smoking and alcohol which are responsible for loss of life and wealth.

this is very good debate and nice people responding this way.unfortunately some people cant realise that a product available in market means its not banned or illegal(as govt get revenue in terms of taxes)and one should mind that every adult(>18 yrs)have right to choose what best to them, and its against human rights.its not that i support smoking and drinking(in terms of addiction)but they are not illicit drugs that one should act like this.if any body wants to detain from modelling or drinking(celebrities)its their choice.but at the level of a minister who dont have courage(sorry to say) to ban tobacco and alcohol in the society and market also dont have right to ask others to abstein from it.infact asking personally to do so means its defaming that person.so i think what mr bachan said is cent percent right and minister should think before he talk about some body.and also people like mallanna should obtain some commonsense before objecting what SRK or mr bachan said.being a doctor i strongly oppose smoking then what a health minister should do: 1.ban all tobacco and liqour. 2.stop growing tobacco or atleast dont sell it in india as govt gets revenue from exporting it and dont brew alcohol in india. 3.if all these donot happen atleast spend some government money to educate and bring awareness in people by bombarding information on harms due these things. finally its a cheap trick defaming celebrities. fact: according to AIMS survey only 20% are following film actors regarding smoking and drinking.so think about 80% how they get addicted. so i believe union minister stance is INSANE.

Politicians should set a noble example by stopping the use of Hooter Sirens / Beacon lights on their vehicles . It creates traffic snarls and geatly inconveniences the ordinary vehicle drivers.
