New Delhi: Glasgow terror suspect Kafeel Ahmed died of burn injuries at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary hospital in UK early Friday morning. Kafeel had set himself on fire after allegedly driving an explosives-laden jeep into the Glasgow airport terminal on June 30.

The 27-year-old engineer from Bangalore had sustained 90 percent burns and been in the hospital for a month. He had been in a state of coma throughout his hospital stay, and was kept under armed police guard.

Sources told CNN-IBN that the UK police' investigations into the failed Glasgow terror attack may now hit a wall, as Kafeel Ahmed was the one person who could have been a source of information on whether the Glasgow foiled attack was a part of a larger conspiracy.

Now that the key suspect is dead, it will be a lot more difficult for the UK police to establish a connection between Kafeel and his brother Sabeel Ahmad—who was also found to be involved in the terror plot.

"We can confirm that the man seriously injured during the course of the incident at Glasgow airport on Saturday June 30 has died in Glasgow Royal Infirmary,'' a Strathclyde Police spokesman was quoted by the New York Times.

Kafeel was an engineer from Bangalore with a doctorate in design and technology.

His brother, Sabeel Ahmed, 26, had also been charged with withholding information that could prevent an act of terrorism. The other man in the car, Iraqi doctor Bilal Abdullah, had been charged with conspiring to set off explosions.

Kafeel’s second cousin Mohammed Haneef arrested and charged in Australia over the attacks was released last week when police admitted that they did not have enough evidence against him. The Bangalore-based engineer was believed to have worked in the Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge and was reportedly a member of the religious sect Tabhleegi Jamaat.
